Project Overview:

The project is titled; Initiative to Provide Justice to Victims of Violence in 7 Northern provinces of Afghanistan Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab, Samangan, Baghlan and Badakhshan; by having 5 measurable objectives as: establishing legal aid centers in three provinces ( Baghlan, Faryab and Badakhshan) to provide legal aid/assistance to women and girls at risk, hiring 70 religious scholars to deliver messages through domestic occasions to enhance public awareness in order to be sensitized and mobilize to reduce negative consequences, detrimental impact and negative outcomes of child-marriage and high cost of marriage, to produce and telecast the 22 three-minutes drama-plays on negative impact and outcomes of child-marriage and high cost of marriage through AREZU international TV, to conduct 22 TV roundtables based on advocacy and conduct the 2 rounds of Regional Advocacy Conferences to mobilize and sensitize governmental organs such as (governors, heads of elected councils and members of parliament).

The project aimed to implement in 7 northern provinces of Afghanistan (Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab, Samangan, Baghlan and Badakhshan).

Project Goal: To defend Women's Legal and Social Rights through providing justice, in order to bring about positive and lasting improvements in their lives.

The overall project objectives aimed to reduce violence against Women and bring positive changes in Afghanistan's Women lives.

Project Objectives:

Objective # 1: To establish 3 Legal Aid Centers (LACs') in three provinces of Baghlan, Badakhshan and Faryab by hiring 6 licensed advocates (1 Male and 1 Female in each province) to provide legal aid/assistance to women and girls at risk through mediation, consultation, case appeal preparation, defend and follow-up with courts for justice throughout the project life.

Objective # 2: To hire , orient and assign 70 religious scholars/Mullahs from 70 districts of 7 covered provinces to deliver significant messages on negative consequences, detrimental impact and negative outcomes of child-marriages and high cost-marriages/Toyana through domestic occasions, aiming to enhance public awareness in order to be sensitized and mobilize to eliminate the above mentioned negative traditional customs during 12 months.

Objective # 3: To produce 22 three-minutes Drama-Plays, demonstrating negative outcomes, detrimental impact and negative consequences of child-marriages and high cost-marriages/Toyana and subsequently telecast through Arzu International TV throughout 22 months of the project life.

Objective # 4: To conduct 22 fifteen-minutes advocacy-based TV round-tables, featuring prominent lawyers, governmental organs, Civil Society Activists, Experts, Advisors, Decision-Makers Ulemas and etc....Discussing on negative outcomes, negative consequences and detrimental impact of child-marriages and high cost-marriages/Toyana through international Arzu TV throughout 22 months of project life and enforcing government to adopt a policy containing  (fixed-rate of Toyana not exceeding AF 200,000).

Objective # 5: To conduct 2 rounds of Regional Advocacy Conferences to mobilize and sensitize governmental organs such as; Governors, Heads of Elected Councils, Members of Parliament, Ulemas, policy-changers, Advisors, experts, prominent personalities, Civil Society Activists and other authorized figures of 7 northern provinces to discuss on negative impact of child-marriages and high cost-marriages/Toyana that aims subsequently recommending and enforcing parliament and/or government to adopt a new policy to Eliminate Culture of High Cost-Marriages.
